CHARITIES THAT CAN HELP & ADVISE WITH LONELINESS

Chronic loneliness affects people of all ages and backgrounds and touches the lives of millions. It causes real emotional pain and can impact our physical and mental health. It also has an economic cost in the additional health and care services that are needed by people who are lonely.

British Red Cross - More than 9 million people in the UK say they feel lonely some or most of the time. So if loneliness is affecting your life, you're not alone.

Marmalade Companions supports those in our community who are the most socially isolated, and who experience chronic loneliness (feeling lonely all or most of the time). 

WaveLength has been the leading national loneliness charity for 80 years, and has successfully helped to reduce loneliness through the provision of technology. WaveLength works at a local level through a network of partners on the ground to deliver help, comfort and contact to those most in need.

MIND Explains loneliness, including the causes of loneliness and how it relates to mental health problems. Gives practical tips to help manage feelings of loneliness, and other places you can go for support.

SupportLine provides a confidential helpline offering emotional support to any individual on any issue who resides in the UK. The Helpline is primarily a preventative service and aims to support people before they reach the point of crisis.

At Age UK, one of the ways we try to combat loneliness in later life is through our friendship services. Age UK and our partner charity The Silver Line offer free telephone friendship services so you can enjoy chatting with someone over the phone, all from the comfort of your own home.

We need connection whatever our age – especially if we live alone or further away from family. Age UK's Silver Line Helpline gives anyone aged 55 or over the opportunity to exchange a friendly word, access support, or enjoy a long enriching conversation.

Re-engage provides vital, life-enhancing social connections for older people at a time in their lives when their social circles are diminishing.

We are a loneliness charity that creates connections to change lives. We do this through our befriending, social prescribing and volunteering services in Brighton, Hove and beyond, and by sharing our ideas and expertise nationally. In a city of nearly 300,000, no one should be lonely or socially isolated.
